Mia Rushton & Eric Moschopedis (Calgary/Kanada):
Z’s by the C: a Radical Crafting and Public Napping Project
Eric Moschopedis und Mia Rushton invite the population of Zurich to take a nap in a public space in the middle of their city, and in doing so to challenge the devision between private and open space in a playful way. The artists aim, under the patronage of art, to legitimise public sleeping for everyone with their safe “sleeping zones”….just sweet public dreams!
Mia Rushton
is a gradute of the Alberta College of Art and Design, and works as a printmaker, radical crafter, and collector. By combining elements of screen-printing, printmaking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and drawing, Rushton is select among a new generation of do-it-yourself and indie artists that have embraced handcrafting as a way out, and a resistance to, the overy technocratic art industry.
Eric Moschopedis
is an award winning interdisciplinary performer, facilitator, educator, and curator. By combining a child-like curiosity with the scrutiny of an ethnographer, Moschopedis creates community-specific, relational, and participatory works that invite audiences to become active collaborators in the creation of community. In addition to participatory works, Moschopedis maintains a performance practice that oscillates between staged performance, performance for video, installation, performative work, intervention, and walking, finding, and collecting.
Mia Rushton and Eric Moschopedis joined artistic forces two years ago after many solo projects. They concentrate mainly on social topics in their work. They have publicly napped at such famous places as Central Park (New York) and Calgary’s Central Library.
