Festival

The summery atmosphere of the sixth edition of stromereien once again redefines the cityscape as a space for artistic exploration. With performances, interventions, music and installations, stromereien changes the ‘rate of flow’ of the city. In chosen spaces along the Limmat, stromereien hunts out hidden treasures and exhibits them as part of an organic, urban entity.

We are looking forward to ten stimulating festival days, to balmy summer evenings on the banks of the River Limmat, and to collectively rediscovering the city as a work of art and a place of lively experiences.

This year’s festival programme offers an inviting and varied cross-section through today’s performance art from both Switzerland and abroad. From around 300 applicants, 19 projects were selected and have been developed in intense dialogue with the city of Zurich.

With the curiosity, determination and bravery of explorers, the artists have ventured out into unknown, complex and sometimes precarious areas of Zurich, gathering inspiration from the specific realities they have encountered and, working either as soloists or as part of a group, placing emphasis or focus on certain aspects of the urban space. The audience is invited to explore the boundaries between fiction and reality for themselves, either on foot, or on two or four wheels.
