About stromereien

Every other summer, stromereien presents contemporary performance art against an industrial and metropolitan backdrop. The main focus of the festival is the human body in motion in an urban landscape.

The performing artists take up residence in the area around the Tanzhaus Zurich, a landscape with an industrial past, a mixture of natural river banks and urban territory. The green spaces along the river Limmat, the public baths and the former railway viaduct offer many nooks and crannies waiting to be discovered by both the artists and the audience.

Performances are usually especially created or adapted for stromereien and intended for a chosen site in the area. The artists have the opportunity to work in residence in Zurich in preparation for the festival. The program includes work of national and international artists with a focus on innovative, site specific performance work.

stromereien not only wants to provide a stage for the immediate and unforeseen, but also intends to stimulate the spectators’ curiosity and their appetite to participate in an artistic process. A workshop, several talks and presentations are offered in addition to the performance programme.
